CREATIVE RESIDENCY- FILM WORK TDB PREMIERE POST COVID

Mississippi Styx

Peter & Paul Arts Center, New Orleans

with director Monica Payne and scenic design - Tanya Orellana

In this 10 day residency at Peter + Paul, BODYART Artistic Director, Leslie Scott teamed up with theater director Monica Payne to investigate the environmental impacts of the exploitation and the industrialization of the Mississippi River. Mississippi Styx is a journey into the making of an American myth, at the precipice of the end/beginning of delta urbanism. Integrating ancient Greek archetypes with the voices and bodies of New Orleans’ past-present-future, Mississippi Styx (de - and re -) constructs a powerful myth about the sinking city and all the foolish ways man tried to outsmart mother nature. How do you catch and keep a river? You don’t. Not for long. The full work will premiere in late 2020.
